Concept
Projection mapping going mainstream
Longer Description
While we may eventually get to a world where we are all wearing our headsets, it feels equally as likely that the presence of projectors will increase in homes as well as environments. The idea of big black rectangles (screens) is one that will look absurd decades from now and projection mapping both could lead to significantly more malleable environments across utility-driven applications as well as consumer applications.
Other Thoughts
- We’ve seen everything from enterprise use-cases like changing menus, collaborative spatial visualization, or “touch-screens” paired with projection mapping to consumer use-cases surrounding gaming.
- The increasing ability to use audio and gesture as an input means that interaction and utility of projection mapped applications will become more seamless than today.
- If the hardware layer of in-home devices becomes abstracted away, will we see large platforms get into the projection hardware game? Will they try to leapfrog with headsets? Either way an OS will be very important.
